"Quite what possessed Mick MacO. (the dot is important!) to get in touch with hidden europe a few weeks ago we shall never know. We are after all exponents of slow travel, always advocating the merits of taking more rural and meandering routes rather than dashing from one capital city to the next. Mick does the opposite, and his account of his hare-brained one-month dash around Europe with an InterRail card is one of the most engaging short books we’ve run across in a while. So thanks, Mick, for taking the initiative in contacting us. Mick’s book is called Trip and he has published it himself (see www.MickMacO.org for details).

Take a pinch of Roddy Doyle, throw in some of Douglas Adams’ more outlandish ideas and stir in a dose of Jack Kerouac to get an idea of how a month of non-stop travel can cause serious havoc with your brain. Mick made his round Europe dash in the summer of 1995. Thirty days [sic], twenty-eight cities, fifteen countries, alone. No wonder that it has taken Mick a dozen years to write the book. The real heroine of the piece is Mrs MacO., to whom the book is dedicated. Can you imagine living with a man who takes that long to write a book? But it was all worth it in the end. Trip is a great read."
